Marcus Rashford’s dream of possibly securing a permanent contract with Barcelona after his loan spell has been dealt a fatal blow due to La Liga’s new rules, MySportDab reports.
After his fortunes with Manchester United took a sharp turn under Ruben Amorim, Rashford needed a new start to breathe life back into his career.
He had spent last season on loan to Aston Villa and was out of Amorim’s plans for this season hence the decision to open a new chapter away from the Old Trafford outfit.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick, who is understood to be a big fan of the player, pressed the button for the Catalan giants to sign the player.
Rashford joined the La Liga champions on a season-long loan deal with a €30m buyout clause.
MySportDab understands Barcelona are open to signing the player permanently should he impress on his loan shift.
However, according to Spanish outlets, the team may not be able to broker a permanent contract for Rashy due to La Liga’s new limit on their salary cap.
The Spanish football’s governing body reportedly announced a slash of Barcelona’s salary cap from €463m to €351m due to their failure to meet expected revenue base after latest audits.
A permanent contract for Rashford will means improved wages for the player that may strike through this new salary ceiling.
Meanwhile, Rashford got off to a remarkable start on his Champions League debut for the club, scoring a brace in their 2-0 away victory over Newcastle United.
