Oscar Piastri claimed victory at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday, taking a commanding 34-point lead in the Formula 1 world championship after McLaren teammate and title rival Lando Norris retired late with engine trouble, MySportDab Reports.

The Australian appeared set for another McLaren one-two before Norris reported smoke in his cockpit on lap 65 of 72. Moments later, the Briton’s car slowed and came to a halt, extinguishing his hopes of cutting the championship deficit.

Had Norris overtaken Piastri, the gap would have shrunk to just two points, but his retirement left the Australian with breathing space of more than a full race win.

Home favourite Max Verstappen finished second for Red Bull, while Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar celebrated his first-ever F1 podium with a stunning third-place finish.

The Frenchman punched the air in delight as he crossed the line, delivering one of the season’s standout stories.

The race was littered with drama, with Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc both crashing out in separate incidents.

Mercedes’ George Russell took fourth, while Alex Albon delivered a strong drive to secure fifth for Williams. Haas rookie Oliver Bearman produced a remarkable recovery from the pitlane to finish sixth.

Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso claimed seventh and eighth, with Yuki Tsunoda ninth for Red Bull and Esteban Ocon completing the points for Haas.

For Piastri, it was his seventh win of the season and ninth career victory, matching fellow Australian and manager Mark Webber’s tally.
