Alexander Isak has finally won the battle to leave Newcastle United for Liverpool as the Reds have finally secured the deal for his services just at the cusp of the summer transfer window, MySportDab reports.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed this shock development as he announced the Swedish forward is on his way to Merseyside for his medical and signing of contract.
“Alexander Isak to Liverpool, here we go! Deal agreed now for £130m transfer fee. Record move for Premier League.
“Isak, on his way today for medical tests as new Liverpool player after long term deal agreed months ago.
“It was always ONLY Liverpool for Isak.”
Isak’s transfer to Liverpool has ended a prolonged transfer fallout between the player and Newcastle United.
He had agreed personal terms with the Premier League champions after their approach and talks with his camp, but faced stiff opposition from Newcastle United, who didn’t want him to leave.
Liverpool’s first offer in excess of £100m was blatantly rejected and the club pulled away due to the manner of rejection while monitoring the Tyne-based side’s nuances afterwards.
Close sources revealed they only wanted to bid again if Newcastle United flashed signals of being ready to entertain a second bid.
Meanwhile, MySportDab understands Isak played a great role in pushing the Magpies to bow to Liverpool pressure as he refused to train with the team and missed their opening three matches in the season.
However, Newcastle United didn’t chicken out of the fight easily as they insisted he (Alexander Isak) is still not for sale and must abide by the terms of his contract.
Nonetheless, they wouldn’t risk forking out £265,000 weekly to a player whose body and soul has left the club. And besides they had a record EPL transfer fee on the table.
Isak is Liverpool’s second attacking signing this summer after Hugo Ekitike and is expected to play a leg role in the Reds’ campaign this season.
