Terence Crawford has billed his highly anticipated clash with Canelo Alvarez as the biggest fight in boxing “in probably a decade,” as he prepares to make history in Las Vegas on Saturday night, MySportDab Reports.
The 37-year-old American, undefeated in 41 bouts (31 KOs), steps up two weight classes to challenge Alvarez for the super middleweight titles at Allegiant Stadium, in a fight streamed globally on Netflix.
A win would see Crawford become the first male boxer to be crowned undisputed champion in three weight divisions.
“Same song, just a little higher tone,” Crawford told Reuters, insisting his preparation remains consistent despite the weight jump. He praised Alvarez’s pedigree but backed his own tools to shine on the night. “Canelo is very experienced. I’m very experienced as well. The best man is going to win. My footwork and speed could be the difference.”
Fighting on Mexican Independence Day weekend in front of a pro-Alvarez crowd does not faze Crawford. “I’ve been in hostile territory before. This is nothing new. They can’t fight for him,” he said.
Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) represents Crawford’s toughest opponent on paper, but the Omaha native insists his motivation goes beyond belts. “It’s the daughters, it’s legacy, it’s becoming the first male boxer to become undisputed in three weight classes. It’s all of it.”
Crawford acknowledged his admiration for Alvarez’s career, but his focus is on victory and cementing his place among boxing’s greats. “It definitely would be the highlight of my career, the biggest win by far,” he said. “They’re going to be saying I’m the greatest of this generation and this era.”
The showdown promises fireworks, with history, legacy, and pound-for-pound supremacy all on the line in Las Vegas.
