Florian Wirtz
Florian Wirtz is top of our list of newly signed midfielders to watch out for in the Premier League this season. The German international joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen for a club record fee of £116.5 million, making him the most expensive Premier League signing of all time.
The attacking midfielder scored 10 goals and registered 12 assists in 33 Bundesliga matches for Bayer Leverkusen last season. He was named in the Bundesliga team of the season and was recently nominated for the ballon d’or. He was also awarded with the German player of the year for 2025.
The 22-year-old has already scored for the Reds during preseason. He was also responsible for setting up the first goal for fellow new signing Hugo Ekitike in the Community Shield finals. He is known for his flair, creativity and eye for goal.
Wirtz adds dynamism, creativity, and versatility to Liverpool’s already potent attack. His playmaking abilities will be very essential for the Reds as they look to defend the Premier League title.
Martin Zubimendi
Next on our list is former Real Sociedad and now Arsenal defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi. Having previously rejected a move to Liverpool, he signed for the Gunners for a fee of £51 million.
He scored twice and provided one assist for Real Sociedad last season and has also given one assist for Arsenal in the Emirates cup win against Athletic Bilbao. He is known for his strength, ability to make tackles and creativity.
With the expiration of Thomas Partey’s contract, the 26-year-old is expected to fill in the shoes of the Ghanaian. With his strong passing ability, tactical intelligence, and defensive prowess, his arrival will bring midfield balance for Arsenal.
Matheus Cunha
Former Wolverhampton Wanderers attacking midfielder, Matheus Cunha is next on our list. The 26-year-old who scored 15 goals and provided six assists last season for Wolves, completed a £67.5 million move to Manchester United.
The Brazilian international who finished eighth in the Premier League top scorer’s chart, will be looking to make his mark for the Red Devils. He was named Wolverhampton player’s player of the year last season. He is known for his shot power and technicality, speed and strength.
The addition of Cunha will provide attacking strength to Manchester United. With his versatility, he will be expected to team up with fellow new signings, Mbuemo and Sesko, to improve Manchester United.
Rayan Cherki
Manchester City’s attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki is next on our list of newly signed midfielders to watch out for. The French sensation was signed for £36.5 million from Olympique Lyon. The scored eight goals and provided 11 assists in 30 Ligue 1 matches last season.
The 22-year-old won many awards last season. He was named in the Union Nationale des Footballeurs Professionnels team of the year and Europa League team of the year. He was also named Ligue 1 top assist provider and dribbler amongst others
He is known for his flair and dribbling skills. He is also a play maker and can score goals. With his versatility, he will bring massive improvement to Manchester City.
Tijjani Reijnders
The last on our list of newly signed midfielders is Former AC Milan and current Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders . Signed from AC Milan for a fee of £46.3 million, he scored 10 goals and provided four assists for the Red and Blacks last season.
He got off the mark for the Citizens in their opening Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers. He scored once and provided one assist and was also named the player of the match.
Known for his strong passing range, vision and ball-carrying abilities. He will bring midfield balance and dominance for Pep Guardiola’s side.
