Manchester United have edged out Newcastle United in the race for Benjamin Sesko, MySportDab reports.
The Red Devils went head-to-head with the Tyne-based outfit for the services of the top-rated Slovenian forward.
Initially, United seemed to be lagging behind the Magpies after the latter met and surpassed RB Leipzig’s asking price for the player following a €90m offer.
However, United were understood to be working underground to agree personal terms and also have the assurances of the player first before submitting their offer.
After crossing that hurdle, the Red Devils then tabled an €84m rival bid for Leipzig to complete the move. Despite falling short of Newcastle’s €90m offer for the player, RB Leipzig accepted the offer due to Benjamin Sesko’s preference for the Old Trafford outfit over Newcastle.
According to Ben Jacobs, the Slovenia international further reaffirmed his decision to choose Manchester United over Newcastle United on Tuesday evening after both clubs submitted their bids to RB Leipzig.
This decision has seen United defeat Newcastle United in the race for the player with the 22-year-old now set for a new chapter in the English top flight.
Sesko will become Man United’s third signing this summer after Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.
He scored four Champions League goals in eight appearances, four DFK-Pokal goals in four matches, and 13 Bundesliga goals plus five assists last season.
The sensational could prove a big attacking addition to United’s squad for next season and is expected to play a big role under new manager Ruben Amorim.
