The defender was strongly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid this summer window, but nothing happened.
His new contract confirms the whole situation to Spain wasn’t close to happening at any point in this summer window.
Tottenham did decided on giving the player their captain armband after Heung Min Son decided to leave the club for Los Angeles FC.
They announced today that the Argentina international have signed a long term contract with the club.
The new deal will see his contract run until 2029 in which a new decision will be made either before or after.
