Newcastle United are now in the hunt for a replacement for Alexander Isak as their Premier League rivals Liverpool close in on signing the forward this summer, MySportDab reports.
The Magpies are set to be readying for the Swedish forward’s transfer exit with Liverpool a few step away from securing his services.
This could be another groundbreaking transfer exit in the Premier League this summer given the player and the clubs involved.
Since joining Newcastle United from Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak has been a revelational forward in the English top flight. He has 54 Premier League goals in 82 appearances for Newcastle and has established himself among the top three best strikers in the English elite division.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United consider him key to the squad but could now lose him this summer despite having three years left on his contract.
According to close sources, Newcastle United had a gentleman agreement with Isak to allow him leave this summer if he so desires despite being contracted to the club till 2028.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been working on a deal to sign him since January and Anfield sources have confirmed it is just a matter of time before Isak move to the Merseyside outfit.
The report adds the 26-year-old is gesticulating towards joining the Reds and have now handed the Premier League champions a major boost by agreeing personal terms with them.
Newcastle United are reportedly aware of this behind-door agreement between Isak and the Reds and are now resigned to losing him this summer.
Hence, they are scouring the transfer market to sign his replacement. Their recent €70m bid for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike is understood to be a part of the move to replace Isak.
Liverpool have completed key signings this summer to beef up their midfield and defense and are now targeting the top nine role with Isak is expected to fill the gap in no distant time.
