Manchester United have stepped up their move for top-rated Sporting Lisbon midfielder Morten Hjulman, MySportDab reports.

After splashing £127.5m on the attacking duo of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the Red Devils are bracing for further additions to bolster their attacking ranks for the next campaign.

26-year-old Sporting Lisbon and Danish midfielder Morten Hjulman has emerged as their next top target to deepen the depth in the team’s midfield.

According to the BBC, the Red Devils have now submitted a £35m first bid to Sporting for the player.  While Sporting have yet to make a decision on the offer, it is understood they are likely to reject as they want at least €50m for the player.

Meanwhile, Juventus are also understood to be strongly in the race for Morten. Before United’s £32m offer, the Serie A giants reportedly offered Sporting their exit-bound stars Douglas  Luiz and Arthur Melo to the Portuguese club for Morten, but were turned down.

Morten has three years left on his Sporting contract and is open to a new challenge away from the Primeira Liga champions.

He has a £68m release clause on his deal, but Sporting are reportedly ready to deal in the region of £43m (equivalent of €50m as stated before).

It is yet unclear whether United will table a second bid for the player, but personal terms are understood not to be an issue.

Morten is not a typical goal-hero, but is renowned for football intelligence, pace, passing skills, and work rate. He had two goals plus two assists last season for Sporting, but was instrumental to the club’s title-winning campaign, making 28 league appearances.
