IIkay Gundogan has made Manchester City’s exit list this summer, MySportDab reports.
The Premier League champions are expected to part ways with six players this summer in addition to Kyle Walker who left for Burnley for €5m.
MySportDab understands the decision to further axe six more players from the squad followed Pep Guardiola’s call for a smaller and tighter squad.
The Spaniard complained bitterly last seen for being in charge of an overbloated squad, leading to lack of game time for several first-team top players.
He even threatened to quit his role if the club’s management doesn’t approve the departure of some players, especially in the wake of new arrivals this summer.
Recall prior to the just-concluded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, City have made four signings to bolster their ranks. Leading the list of these newest additions are Tijjani Reijnders joined from AC Milan who joined for £46m.
Former Lyon attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki also joined for £34m, including Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves and Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea.
With the new numbers further straining the size of the squad above Pep’s optimal and preferred size, several exits (about six) are expected this summer.
According to The Athletic, IIkay Gundogan is top on the list names expected to exit the Etihad outfit. Gundogan rejoined the team from Barcelona last season after leaving in 2023.
He quickly cemented his spot in Guardiola’s midfield but has dropped down the pecking order ahead of the upcoming and is expected to leave.
Other players on the exit list are Nico O’Riley, Claudia Echeveria, Oscar Bob, and Mateo Kovacic.
