After crashing out of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the round of 16, Inter Miami are back to winning ways as they resume action in the MLS, MySportDab reports.
The Herons traded tackles with CF Montreal at Saputo Stadium in their matchday 17 fixture on Saturday night.
Before the FIFA Club World Cup, Javier Mascherano’s men went three games unbeaten in the USA elite division.
They defeated CF Montreal 4-2 in that stretch and were aiming to seal a double over the Eastern Conference rivals.
German forward Prince Owusu opened the scoring for the home side just two minutes into the game, but that would be the hosts’ only strike in a five-goal thriller.
Argentine winger Tadeo Allende pegged the hosts to a draw three minutes after the half hour.
Seven minutes after Allende’s goal, Lionel Messi was on the score sheet to complete the comeback five minutes before the break.
Messi’s strike saw the visitors turn the game around in a flash, coming from a goal down to lead 2-1 in the first 45.
In the second half, Venezuelan midfielder Telasco Segovia extended the lead for the Herons, scoring a 60th-minute stunner to make it 3-1, thanks to an assist by Allende.
Two minutes after Segovia’s strike, Lionel Messi bagged his brace to make it 4-1 in a flash.
The quickfire double in the second half put the game beyond CF Montreal with Inter Miami holding on to secure another big win over Marco Donadel’s men.
They have now climbed to 6th in the Eastern Conference table with 31 points following this victory and will take on Forge in the Canadian Championship quarter-final second leg in their next match on Thursday.
