Cesc Fabregas has refused to rule out the possibility of Lionel Messi joining Como in the future, though the Como boss admits the Inter Miami star remains happy in the United States, MySportDab Reports.
Messi, 37, is in scintillating form for Inter Miami, with 18 goals and seven assists this MLS season. He recently set a league record by scoring braces in five consecutive games and notched another double during Miami’s 5-1 win over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.
While Messi was on MLS duty, his wife Antonela Roccuzzo and their children were seen in the stands as Como defeated Lille 3-2 in a friendly last Friday.
Fabregas, now head coach and a minority shareholder at Como, was asked about the possibility of reuniting with his former Barcelona teammate.
“Never say never,” Fabregas said during a press conference ahead of Como’s friendly against Al-Ahli. “Antonela was here at my house on vacation. Leo was away with Inter Miami, and they took the chance to visit. Our families are very close.”
Fabregas added with a smile, “After the game I told our sporting director, Carlalberto Ludi, that technically Messi has already played at Como – his children were playing here!”
However, the Spaniard quickly tempered expectations. “He’s very happy in America, so let’s stay calm,” he said.
Messi’s current contract with Inter Miami expires at the end of the 2025 season, though talks over an extension are ongoing.
Fabregas and Messi played together at Barcelona from 2011 to 2014, winning multiple titles in a spell that saw the Catalans dominate both Spanish and European football.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed on Tuesday that Como will face Barcelona in the 60th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy next month.
