Nuno Mendes went hard on Spain and Barcelona attacking sensation Lamine Yamal after Portugal clinched the 2025 UEFA Nations League title, MySportDab reports.
The Roberto Martinez-led side edged out the defending champions Spain via penalties to clinch the coveted trophy for the second time.
Twice they fought back to level terms, and then dragged it to the spots to overcome the Spaniards. Diogo Costa’s heroic in the shootouts made a huge difference as the Porto goalie denied Morata to allow Ruben Neves’ stripe secure the team the trophy.
Apart from Costa, including Ronaldo, who also had a field day with a goal in the match, Nuno Mendes was another standout performer for Lusitanians in Munich.
The PSG left-back was a constant thorn in the flesh of Spain with his terrific advances and composed defensive play.
He scored the team’s first goal and played a crucial role marking out Lamine Yamal to tame proceedings in his side’s favour.
Speaking after the match and reflecting on his performance throughout the football season, Mendes sounded boastful of his contributions, especially neutralizing Lamine Yamal to cripple Spain’s attacking prowess in the Nations League final.
He added that he has faced many top players and Lamine Yamal happened to be one of them which he managed to cancel out.
“I have face many top players with great technical abilities. Lamine Yamal is one of them but I managed to mark him and help the team,” he said.
Mendes has now added his fifth trophy in a singular campaign to his locker room. He had won the French League Cup, French Ligue 1 title, including the UEFA Champions League before the triumph on Sunday night at Allianz Arena.
