Bruno Fernandes has broken his silence on why he turned down Al-Hilal’s lucrative offer, MySportDab reports.
The 30-year-old was primed by the Saudi giants as a marquee target to lead the team’s 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
He was also expected to fill the vacuum left by Neymar, not only on the field but with the aura and prestige to continue selling the Saudi’s ambitious football project to the rest of the world.
An insane €700,000-per-week offer was on the table – working out at over three times his Man United’s weekly paycheck and €68million in annual wages.
Overall, Bruno Fernandes was expected to earn a staggering €200million over the three-year contract offer from the Blues.
Moreover, Al-Hilal were ready to pay as much as €100million to Man United – a fee considered far too high for a player that has clocked 30.
Initially, it was thought Bruno would accept the offer. His agent Miguel Pinho was spotted in Saudi to negotiate the terms of the deal.
However, in a shocking report that we confirmed yesterday, Bruno finally turned down the offer.
Now, speaking on why he rejected the offer, the Man United top star revealed that Al-Hilal’s president even called to convince him to join but he refused the offer since United manager Ruben Amorim and the club didn’t want him to leave.
“There was an opportunity. The president called me and asked if I wanted to go there. They were waiting for me. I spoke to coach Amorim. He asked me not to go. Manchester United didn’t want to sell me.
“They don’t need the money. If I had wanted to leave, they would have made it happen,” he said.
Bruno is considered a key part is Man United’s project under Amorim. He has two years left on his deal and is likely to renew this or next summer given these recent developments.
