Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed a new update on Taiwo Awoniyi following the latter’s recent emergency surgery, MySportDab reports.

Earlier this week, the Tricky Trees confirmed in a club statement that Awoniyi has been hospitalized for emergency surgery due to abdominal pains.

The Nigeria international collided against the goalpost during Nottingham Forest’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City in Premier League matchday 36 fixture last week.

However, he was prepped up by the team’s medical staff to continue with the game despite the obvious discomfort due to the club’s exhausted substitution options.

It is believed the stress of the injury and the work overload led to the excruciating abdominal blow that resulted in his hospitalization and emergency surgery.

Due to the alleged severity of the situation, Awoniyi was induced into a coma for operation, attracting a rain of well-wishes from football fans across the globe.

A few days later, Nottingham Forest issued another statement that he had come out of the induced coma and was responding to treatment.

Now, Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed a fresh new update on the situation.

Speaking ahead of Nottingham Forest’s Premier League cracker against West Ham on Sunday, the former Wolves boss revealed Awoniyi is recovering well but will be at the hospital for at least five more days.

“The information we have is that he has to be there (in hospital) for at least five days under observation. I will try to visit as soon as possible. He is in good hands and has his family there.

”The players are constantly chatting in their groups and we know he is well. He just needs time.

Espirito Santo added he hopes to have the player back in the squad as soon as possible before the end of the season.

”I hope next week he can join us and be around. He is a wonderful boy and this season has been so hard on him. We feel so sorry.”

This means Awoniyi will miss West Ham match. Meanwhile, it has been confirmed Nottingham Forest players will show their support for the player in the West Ham match with a solidarity gesture.
