PSG manager Luis Enrique has aimed s subtle dig at the Premier League and Premier League clubs after his side knocked out Arsenal in Champions League semi-finals, MySportDab reports.
The Spaniard led the team to win 1-0 away in the first leg in London before winning again 2-1 at home in Paris in the second leg.
Ousmane Dembele, Fabian Ruiz, and Achraf Hakimi all found the back of the net as the Parisians easily dispatched the Premier League side to qualify for the their second Champions League final in seven years.
After the second leg victory in Parc Des Princes, Luis Enrique sneaked in the immanent argument on which is a stronger league in Europe by aiming a satirical remark at the Premier League.
In a quote shared by Fabrizio Romano, the former Barcelona manager boasted of how he has defeated all four Premier League teams en route to the final despite the French top flight being brandished as the ‘farmers league,’ inferior to other top European leagues, including the Premier League.
“Beating all 4 Premier League teams? Well… the League of Farmers, know? We are the league of farmers,” he said.
Enrique’s PSG defeated Manchester City in matchday 7 of the league phase. They also edged out Liverpool in the round of 16, knocked out Aston Villa in the quarterfinals before eliminating Arsenal from the competition as well.
However, they had lost to Arsenal in the league phase before harvesting their pound of flesh in the semi-finals.
Obviously, Luis Enrique has done a great job with PSG in the European scene since he joined last season. However, his success with the Ligue 1 giants isn’t enough to justify his assertion that the French top flight is at par with the Premier League.
The latter boast a more competitive game, stronger and bigger fanbase, including more lucrative sponsorship deals.
