Arsenal have held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in a dramatic Premier League matchday 36 cracker at Anfield, MySportDab reports.
The two teams met on the back of contrasting fortunes in the English top flight.
With two matches left in the run-ins, Arsenal had their top-five hopes on the line heading into this match.
Meanwhile, Liverpool had clinched the league title but had to save their pride against the Gunners. Hence, the stage was set for an interesting tie as both teams lock horns.
Liverpool got off to a good start. 20 minutes into the game, they raced into the lead. Cody Gakpo, latching on a brilliant assist by Robertson, fired the hosts in front.
Just a minute after Gakpo’s opener, Luis Diaz doubled the lead for the Reds in a big blow to Arsenal’s comeback hopes.
Arsenal stepped up proceedings to halve the deficit and possibly stage a comeback after the quickfire double, but it was a bland adventure by the away side.
Liverpool held their nerves to preserve the two-goal lead at the break.
In the second half, Arsenal improved their game immensely, and this yielded an immediate result.
Two minutes into the restart, Gabriel Martinelli put one back for the away side to halve the deficit.
In the 70th minute, Mikel Merino scored his seventh Premier League goal for the Gunners to level the score.
However, nine minutes later, the Gunners’ main hitman Merino saw his second yellow card and was sent off.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Mikel Arteta’s side were able to hold off the pressure, settle for a 2-2 draw and run away with a crucial point to boost their hopes of a top-five finish.
