Real Madrid have closed the gap on league leaders Barcelona to four points following a dramatic 3-2 victory over Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabeu, MySportDab reports.
Kylian Mbappe scored a brace as the defending champions put the visitors to rout early in the game with another stellar display to keep tabs on the La Liga title race.
As expected, Carlo Ancelotti’s side dominated proceedings from the start and were looking set to race into the lead immediately after the kickoff.
However, Celta Vigo were able to hold on despite the searing pressure until the 33rd minute. Fast-rising Turkish youngster Arda Guler scored his third La Liga goal this season in 24 appearances to give Real Madrid the lead.
Six minutes after the goal, Kylian Mbappe netted his 24th La Liga goal in 30 appearances to double the lead before the break.
It was evident Celta Vigo were heading towards defeat after conceding the two quick goals to trail at the break. However, they were able to put up a solid and improved late second-half performance that nearly turned the game around.
Just three minutes into the restart, Mbappe bagged his brace to make it 3-0 for Madrid but Celta weren’t ready to give up easily without a fight.
In the 69th minute, Rodriguez slashed the deficit, scoring the opening goal for the visitors. Seven minutes later, Swedberg halved the deficit to set the stage for a dramatic and nervy finish.
With Real Madrid’s lead slashed to just a goal, the away side pushed harder to find the equalizer but were tamed by the hosts, who held on to secure all three points after the final whistle.
The victory has seen them close the gap on their next opponents and league leaders to four points, setting the stage for what will be a title-deciding El-Clasico next weekend.
