Chelsea have hijacked the race for a top-rated English and Premier League forward, MySportDab reports.
By all ramifications, the Blues have surpassed the mark this season, qualifying for the Champions League and clinching the UEFA Conference League title.
In the mix of what could be described as a colossal revamp at the London club, Enzo Maresca has been the hero.
The Italian tactician and former Man City assistant boss, leveraging the energy and quality of the young guns in the Blues’ fold, has changed the narrative for the team , thanks to crops of his new additions to the team.
However, he isn’t showing signs of slowing down and is pushing to reinforce key positions as they prepare for next season.
According to Talksport Chief Football Correspondent, Alex Crook, Maresca is set to hijack the move for English forward Liam Delap and are closing in on a deal for the player.
Crook described the move as a hijack given Chelsea rivals Man United’s strong interest in Delap.
The Red Devils were reportedly on the front foot to sign Delap, but have fallen behind in the race after the Europa League final loss that denied them a shot at Champions League football next season.
Conversely, Chelsea secured Champions League football following a 1-0 away win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League final matchday.
This will not only impact the team’s financial fortunes but also make it attractive for potential target signings like Delap.
Liam Delap cut out an impressive individual campaign with Ipswich Town in the season despite their relegation to the second tier.
He scored 12 Premier League goals plus two assists in 37 appearances for the Tractor Boys.
He also has a relegation clause in his contract with the club and is expected to join one of the elite clubs in the English top flight this summer with Chelsea now his likely next stop.
