Virgil van Dijk has penned down a new contract with Liverpool, ending speculations on the future of the player at the Merseyside outfit, MySportDab reports.
Liverpool confirmed the Dutch defender has put pen to paper on a new deal in a statement on the club’s website and social media handles.
While Liverpool have not disclosed details of the new contract, close sources reveal van Dijk has committed to a new two-year deal till 2027 summer.
Reacting to the new deal, the former Southampton defender told Liverpool website he is happy and proud to commit to fresh terms with the club.
“I’m very happy, very proud. It’s a proud feeling, it’s a feeling of joy. It’s just incredible. The journey I’ve had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing and I’m so happy,” he said.
Van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2018 and has since boast an impressive individual career that has seem him emerge as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and in Europe.
He has won 314 caps with the club, scoring 27 goals. Also, his stellar performances has been critical in Liverpool’s recent successes.
He has won the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups in his over seven years with the club.
Notably, this new deal has brought a logical conclusion to speculations on the future of Van Dijk at Liverpool and it is coming just a few days after his teammate Mohamed Salah also committed to a new deal with the club.
He will hope to continue on his stellar performances for the club as he sets out for a new two-year chapter with the club.
