Nigerian football fans can look forward to the biggest rendezvous with Ghana as both Nation’s vivacious encounter is set to take the 25th Unity Cup in London by storm. The eagerly awaited game will take place on Wednesday 28 May at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium, MySportDab Reports.
The Unity Cup (which has been dormant for 20 years), is a four-nation tournament includ- ing Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica and Trinida d & Tobago.
The event, organised by the AfroSport, is about so much more than a football tournament — it’s a celebration of common culture, common history and common community spirit between African and Caribbean nations. Tuesday, 27 May, Jamaica v Trinidad & Tobago (first semi-final)
Rotimi Pedro, the CEO of AfroSport, said of the return of the tournament: “We’re excited to revive The Unity Cup. This is as much a cultural moment as sporting one. Fans will be treated to a week of elite football, music, food, and entertainment.”
All eyes will be on the Nigeria-Ghana showdown which has a storied history. The Super Eagles and Black Stars have been rivals for over 70 years and they have served us many unforgettable moments.
Nigeria, who have won Africa’s flagship tournament three times, saw off Ghana 2-1 in their last encounter in March 2024. Historically, however, Ghana dominate the head-to-head count, and will be keen to reassert their bragging rights with their avenge their four AFCON titles.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau added: “This is a crucial tournament for our team in preparation for the World Cup qualifiers in September.”
Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong also echoed such thought saying: “The Unity Cup is the perfect platform to build momentum and reconnect as a squad.
The last act is on Saturday, 31 May; the final and third-placed matches. Marcus Gayle, former Jamaica international and now an ambassador for Brentford FC, welcomed the event for helping to strengthen ties in the community through promoting quality football talent.
Unity Cup 2025 is set to be a week of furious competition, cultural celebration, and fantastic footballing memories in London.
