Kylian Mbappe heroed through for Real Madrid as the team came from behind to defeat Villarreal 2-1 away in La Liga, MySportDab reports.
Waving aside his slow start to the campaign, the French forward has been in the form of his life for Los Blancos, scoring week-in and week-out to inspire their chase for a triple.
In the seething La Liga clash against Villarreal on Saturday night, he rose to the occasion with a clutch first-half display that turned the game around.
Villarreal took an unlikely lead in the seventh minute through Foyth but it was just a matter of time before Madrid fought back.
10 minutes after the lead, Mbappe leveled ties for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, scoring a stunner to make it 1-1.
And that was not all; four minutes later, the former PSG forward completed the comeback for the visitors, scoring from Lucas Vazquez’s assist to make it 2-1.
The quickfire double was all Los Blancos needed to secure all three points in the game as the second half ended goalless.
Notably, Villarreal put up a stellar late showing in the second half, especially in the final minutes, but Madrid were up to the task of shoring up their backline to defend the lead.
The defending champions put up a solid defensive display as well to deny the hosts and run out with a crucial victory after the final whistle.
Following the win, they have now racked up 60 points to go top of the table, opening a three-point gap over second-placed and title challengers Barcelona. However, they have played two games more than the Catalan giants.
