Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has dismissed transfer speculation surrounding Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, expressing confidence in the forward’s ability to return to top form, MySportDab Reports.
Awoniyi, 27, has struggled for game time this season as Chris Wood’s impressive performances have seen him secure the starting role at the City Ground.
Despite limited minutes, the Nigerian international has attracted interest, with West Ham United reportedly keen on a January move.
Espirito Santo, however, praised Awoniyi’s contributions and reaffirmed his importance to the team. “Taiwo came on late in the game against Liverpool, having played very well in the previous game against Luton,” he said via the Nottingham Post. “We know his talent and quality as a goalscorer. He always has an impact and creates chances.”
The Portuguese manager expressed optimism about Awoniyi’s ability to regain form, citing his hard work and dedication. “He can absolutely get back to his previous level. Taiwo’s history with this club is significant, and I’m confident he will return to his best.”
Forest are also facing concerns over the future of Super Eagles defender Ola Aina, whose contract expires in six months.
The versatile full-back has reportedly drawn interest from Manchester City and AS Roma.
