Despite a career-high 53 points from Anthony Edwards, the Timberwolves struggled to keep pace, suffering a second consecutive defeat.
Edwards, who had expressed frustration over recent scoring struggles, found his rhythm, shooting 16-of-31 from the field and 10-of-15 from beyond the arc. He also converted 11 of his 12 free throws, but with little scoring support, Minnesota trailed for most of the contest.
Cunningham was instrumental in the Pistons’ win, adding six rebounds and nine assists. He had strong support from Malik Beasley, who contributed 23 points off the bench, while Tobias Harris posted 16 points and 11 rebounds. Rookie Ausar Thompson also impressed with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals.
Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff praised the team’s effort, saying, “The energy from start to finish was phenomenal.” Beasley emphasized the importance of the result, stating, “He can have 100 points for all I care—we got the win.”
