The two married in 2015, long before Jabeur reached the world No. 2 ranking.

Kamoun has remained by her side through her rise, through a genuinely difficult two-year stretch of injuries and breathing problems that pushed her to step away from the sport, and now into a new chapter as parents to their son, Elyan, born in April 2026.

Karim Kamoun represented Tunisia internationally as a professional fencer before shifting his career entirely toward supporting his wife’s tennis career.

He and Jabeur met through their shared involvement in sports and began dating in 2013.

Two years later, on October 29, 2015, the two married in a traditional three-day wedding ceremony in Tunisia, with Jabeur announcing the news on social media at the time with a simple, happy post confirming she and Karim had just gotten married.

In 2017, Kamoun formally transitioned from his own athletic career into working as Jabeur’s fitness coach, a role he has held ever since, traveling with her to tournaments around the world and taking on responsibility for her physical conditioning and training regimen.

Jabeur has spoken candidly about how their marriage has shaped her career in ways people didn’t necessarily expect.

She has said she was aware some assumed she would step back from professional tennis to become a homemaker after marrying, and has pushed back on that assumption directly, describing a partnership where she and Kamoun work through disagreements and consistently find ways to support each other.

For years, she also maintained a specific personal goal tied to family planning, saying as recently as 2024 that she wanted to win a Grand Slam title before starting a family.

This plan shifted as her circumstances changed over the following two years.

Supporting Jabeur Through Injury

Kamoun’s role became especially visible during one of the hardest stretches of Jabeur’s career. Her 2024 season ended prematurely in September due to a persistent shoulder injury that forced her to withdraw from the US Open, causing her ranking to fall from world No. 6 at the start of that year to No. 42 by its end.

The decline continued into 2025, with her ranking dropping as low as No. 71. That year brought an especially frightening moment at the Australian Open, where Jabeur suffered an asthma attack during her second-round match against Camila Osorio, visibly coughing and clutching her chest before slumping into her chair on court.

The physical toll culminated in a heartbreaking first-round loss at Wimbledon 2025, after which Jabeur announced she would be stepping away from tennis on hiatus.

Kamoun responded publicly on Instagram, posting a message of support that read, in part, that true strength isn’t always found in pushing through, a message that framed her decision to prioritize her wellbeing as a sign of strength.

His public response drew attention specifically because it validated a decision that, for a top-level athlete, often gets framed by outsiders as giving up rather than genuine self-care.

Becoming Parents

Ons Jabeur and Kamoun announced in November 2025, just a few months after her Wimbledon hiatus announcement, that they were expecting their first child.

On April 20, 2026, the couple welcomed a son, Elyan Kamoun. They shared the news jointly on Instagram, with Jabeur captioning the post that it was a tiny miracle and a lifetime of love, welcoming their baby boy, alongside a photo of the two new parents holding their newborn, who was wrapped in a blanket printed with tennis rackets.

The announcement video included Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran’s Song Perfect playing in the background, with Kamoun shown holding a small tennis racket and Jabeur holding a tiny onesie.

It marked the first child for both of them, arriving nearly eleven years after their wedding and closing out the years-long conversation Jabeur had previously had about waiting for a Grand Slam title before starting a family.

Career

Jabeur became the first Arab woman to win a WTA Tour singles title when she won the 2021 Birmingham Classic, and went on to reach a career-high ranking of world No. 2 in June 2022, the highest ranking ever achieved by an Arab or African player in tennis history.

She reached three Grand Slam finals, at Wimbledon in both 2022 and 2023 and at the US Open in 2022, without winning any of them, and won five WTA singles titles across her career, including the 2022 Madrid Open.

Her playing style, built around slices, drop shots and creative shot-making, earned her the nickname the Minister of Happiness among fans for her joyful on-court personality.
