Championship club Ipswich have returned to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years following Championship final matchday victory over Huddersfield, MySportDab reports.

Wes Burns and Omas Hutchinson found the back of the net as the Tractor Boys eased past Huddersfield to secure promotion to the English topflight.

With a game left to wrap up the season, the race for the second automatic promotion slot to the English topflight narrowed down to Ipswich and Leeds United.

Taking on Huddersfield, Ipswich were three points better than Leeds United with a lesser goal difference.

However, Leeds needed a win against Southampton to stand a chance of winning automatic promotion while hoping for Ipswich to slip against Huddersfield.

After the final matchday, the reverse was the case with Ipswich securing victory to seal their promotion while Leeds United stumbled to a defeat to Southampton, who were chasing a place in the four-team playoffs for the final promotion slot.

Burns sent the home fans bonkers in the 27th minute to rekindle hopes of promotion to the English elite division. However, it was a nervy affair as the relegation-bound Huddersfield attempted to fight back.

The first half ended with Ipswich securing the narrow lead into the break.

In the second half, Omas Hutchinson sealed the victory for the home side, scoring three minutes into the second 45 to edge the hosts close to a victory.

At the blast of the final whistle, it was a celebration galore for the fans, who erupted with excitement to celebrate the victory and promotion to the English topflight.

The stadium was swarmed with fans who celebrated the milestone moment in the club’s history with fireworks and celebrations.

The Tractor Boys have now become the fourth lower division outfit to gain promotion from the third tier to the first tier in three consecutive seasons, and it is the first time they have returned to the English topflight in 22 years.
