Bayern Munich and Manchester United target Julian Nagelsmann has signed a contract extension with Germany national team, MySportDab reports.

Nagelsmann, 36, was appointed Germany national team manager in September 2023, six months after he was sacked as Bayern Munich manager in March 2023.

The former RB Leipzig manager replaced German football veteran and former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick, who was saddled with the role on an interim basis.

Nagelsmann started his reign with an international friendly win over the USA but went on a three-match winless streak which left his future on the role on knife edge.

He signed an eight-month contract with the team which was expected to run full cycle after the 2024 Euros. However, following the series of underwhelming performances against Mexico, Turkey, and Austria, his future was more uncertified than ever.

Meanwhile, he was linked to a possible return to club football with Europe’s top clubs interested in a move for the young manager.

In Match 2023, Nagelsmann, who was previously expected to leave after the 2024 Euros, turned the table of his footballing fortunes around. He led the Die Mannschaft to two solid and spectacular friendly victories over France and the Netherlands – two biggest football juggernauts in Europe.

The back-to-back victory was enough to convince German football chiefs to propose a new contract extension for the 36-year-old.

As per the BILD, Julian Nagelsmann has agreed to a new two-year contract with the Germany national team and will stay beyond 2024 Euros. He will take charge of the team until the 2026 World Cup.

Nagelsmann’s new contract is coming as a big blow to Bayern Munich who were reportedly progressing in talks to have him return to the club as manager.
