The Saudi authorities have opened an investigation into Cristiano Ronaldo’s obscene reaction to Messi chants during Al-Shabab Vs Al-Nassr Saudi Pro League match, MySportDab reports.
In a viral footage that is making the rounds, Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to make an indecent gesture on fans who were shouting ‘Messi!’ ‘Messi!!’ during the match to taunt him.
According to Goal, the Saudi Football Federation’s Disciplinary and Ethics Committee have opened an investigation into the incident.
Footage of the incident available at the end of this post shows Cristiano Ronaldo facing the jeering fans and waving his hands to his private part.
The gesture was the exact opposite to what he does to supporting fans at the end other end of the stands, cupping his ear to appreciate their encomiums.
His reaction to the opposing fans, who jeered him with Messi chants, has been described as obscene and against standards of civil behavior in Saudi Arabia, hence the move to probe him.
It is not the first time Cristiano Ronaldo has raised eyebrows with his reactions to jeering fans.
During the Al-Nassr’s Riyadh Season Cup final defeat to A-Hilal, a disappointed Cristiano, walking off the field to the tunnel after the match, picked up Al-Hilal scarf thrown at him by a fan, dip it into his private part and then throw it away.
Also, in his first season in Saudi Pro League, the football superstar grabbed his crocks in disdain to opposing fans who were also shouting Lionel Messi’s name to mock him.
It is still unclear what penalties could be meted out on the player if found guilty after the investigations.
Meanwhile, sources close to Al-Nassr have revealed the club are ready to defend the player as they deem him innocent of any indictment.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Al-Nassr in the match, scoring from the spot to give the Riyadh-based outfit the lead before Talisca’s brace sealed a 3-2.
