A long-time Manchester United target Frenkie de Jong is bracing up to leave Barcelona, MySportDab reports.

The Dutch midfield sensation has been a top transfer target for Manchester United since Erik ten Hag became Man United manager. However, he chose to stay put with Barcelona despite the club’s dwindling financial fortunes.

Now, as per reports, Frenkie de Jong is seriously considering his future at the club and is willing to leave at the end of the season.

Frenkie de Jong’s decision to open the door to his Barcelona exit has been linked to the Catalan club’s recent misfortunes in the domestic and European.

A journalist, Lluis Canut, who is said to be close to Frenkie de Jong’s representatives, revealed in Esport3’s Onze Show “De Jong has not given the green light. But he is no longer closing the door on leaving Barca as he did two seasons ago

“At the moment, De Jong is a little disappointed by the situation at Barca because he has not managed to turn the expectations that had been generated at the time when he signed into important titles.

“De Jong would be willing to leave Barca at the end of this season,” Lluis Canut said.

Erik ten Hag vigorously pursued a move for Frenkie de Jong in his first season as Manchester United manager.

United reached a £73m agreement with Barcelona for de Jong but the 54-cap Netherlands international chose to stay at Camp Nou.

He will now be open to leaving the club after five years with United and domestic rivals Arsenal tipped to go for the player at the end of the season.

De Jong has a contract with Barcelona until 2026 and is yet to renew his deal. At the end of the season, he will have 12 months left on his deal and will be open to negotiate with other clubs next summer.

Barcelona are not ready to lose de Jong’s as a free agent and will be hoping to settle for a better offer for the player to assuage the club’s poor financial position.
