Chelsea are plotting a shock multi-million euro move for Barcelona midfield sensation, Frenkie de Jong, MySportDab reports.

According to Spanish outlet, sport, Chelsea are ready to splash as much as €100m for Frenkie de Jong.

The Premier League club are reportedly hoping to snap the highly-rated midfielder to Stamford Bridge to boost their midfield options amidst a report linking Enzo Fernandez to a premature exit from the club.

MySportDab understands Frenkie de Jong has been a top transfer target for Manchester United since 2022. Erik ten Hag has been on the trail of the Netherlands international, having worked with the player at Ajax.

The former Ajax boss was close to signing the midfield maestro as the club reportedly reached an agreement with Barcelona for the player but were turned down at the death by the player himself, who decided to stay put with the La Liga giants.

We reported earlier that Frenkie de Jong is ‘willing to leave’ Barcelona this reason, according to football journalist Lluis Canut.

Canut revealed in Esport3’s Onze Show the midfielder is seriously considering his future at Barcelona following the club’s dismal campaign this season.

Despite being a key part of Xavi Hernandez’s squad, Frenkie de Jong has seen his fortunes spiral downward due to injury – a sad development that has reportedly impacted his decision to opt for a new challenge.

Lluis Canut adds Barcelona are open to letting de Jong leave as such a move would offer a financial reprieve to the club who are reeling in dire financial straits.

It is yet to be determined whether Erik ten Hag will make a move for the player again having signed Casemiro, including a midfield boost by the rise of Kobbie Mainoo.

As things stand, United will have to wrestle with Chelsea in the race for De Jong should they attempt to sign the player.

De Jong has a contract with Barcelona until 2026 but is reportedly open to an exit from the club at the end of the season.
