New European Super League Format CONFIRMED After Court Ruling

A22, the company pushing for the formation of the European Super League, have unveiled a new format for the belated competition, MySportDab reports.

The new format was disclosed by the company immediately after European Court of Justice ruled against FIFA and UEFA for blocking the formation of the breakaway club competition.

Recall the idea of the European Super League was first birthed in 2021 but was abandoned following a fierce opposition and protest by football fans.

Manchester United and other big six of the Premier League were forced to withdraw from the plan following heavy protests and antagonism by English football regulators.

Then, the tournament was planned to involve only few select and elite teams from Europe, and was largely condemned for its elitist and monetary drive.

Now, following the ruling by the European Court of Justice, A22 have unveiled a new plan for the European Super League.

As reported by the Guardian, the new format will be made up of 64 top teams from across Europe.

The 64 teams will be divided into three League tiers based on sporting merit with the big 16 teams making the top division while 16 other teams make the second division.

The last division will be made up of 32 teams but the women’s wing of the competition will not include the third tier.

Unlike the previous format which did not include promotion and relegation, the new format will include promotion and relegation in all the three tiers of the league.

Also, all clubs have been guaranteed a 100% revenue sharing, and all the matches will be streamed live for free.

Despite the planned new format, Nsmnews understands there are still elements of opposition to the European Super League.

The La Liga have issued a strong statement disapproving the league but two of the biggest clubs in the Spanish elite division – Barcelona and Real Madrid – are leading the advocacy for the formation of the new football project.

Manchester United have also issued a statement reiterating their commitment to UEFA club competitions and cooperation with national football association.
