In a viral clip available at the end of this post, it was grim and terrifying on the stands for some Argentina fans on as resolute Brazil Police unleased terrific violence and mayhem on them.
Some fans could be seen plunged to the ground with blood covering their body as the violence and clashes persisted.
According to reports, the horrific scenes at the stadium was inevitable due to the reaction of Brazil Police to Argentina fans before the match kicked off.
In a block of the stands carrying over 3,000 Argentina fans, Brazil Police in their large numbers were said to have cordoned and heavily guarded the area as fans continue to chant and raised their voices during the game.
The mere presence of the armed policemen and the gathering tensions during the game is said to have subsequently sparked the clash between the fans and the Police.
Brazil Police could be seen heavily using clubs and batons on the fans who also made attempts to defend themselves.
A fan was left on a pool of blood and scores confirmed injured with severe and brutal blows.
Lionel Messi reportedly led Argentina national team away from the pitch due to the intensity of the violence.
Emiliano Martinez is said to have rushed to the scene before joining his teammates back to the locker room to urge the Brazil police to stop the violence against the fans.
The match was subsequently delayed for 27 minutes as Lionel Messi and his teammates refused to come out of the locker room to continue the game unless the violence stopped.
After interventions by match officials, the situation was subsequently arrested an calm restored before the match started again.
Otamendi scored the only goal of the match as Argentina saw off their fierce rivals away at the Maracana to go top of the World Cup Qualifiers standings with 12 points from five games.
