The Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) has officially confirmed that the 2023/24 season will commence on Saturday, September 30, 2023, across various venues in the country, MySportDab reports.

NPFL’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, revealed this information in a letter addressed to the league’s 20 participating clubs and stakeholders.

In addition to announcing the season’s start date, Owumi disclosed that the champions of the upcoming season would be awarded ₦150 million as prize money, marking a significant 50 percent increase compared to the previous season.

Furthermore, the letter outlined the disbursement of start-off grants totaling ₦200 million to the 20 participating clubs.

Each of the 20 clubs will receive a take-off grant of ₦10 million to facilitate their preparations and operations as the new season kicks off.

The NPFL secretariat has requested the clubs to promptly provide their account details for the seamless transfer of the allocated amount.

Regarding the increase in prize money, the letter stated, After due deliberations by the chairman and the strategic partners, it was agreed that the prize money, since that is what connotes the true value of the league, be reviewed upwards to N150 million.

The letter also addressed marketing concerns and assured the clubs that the NPFL board would consistently make decisions and establish contracts that prioritize the league’s best interests and those of the clubs.

These developments reflect the NPFL’s commitment to enhancing the league’s competitiveness and financial rewards for participating clubs.
