Erik ten Hag has now come to the defence of goalkeeper David De Gea after another Blunder yesterday, MySportDab reports.

The Dutch coach still wants De Gea to sign a new contract and extend his stay despite him costing the club a goal at the London Stadium.

De Gea’s mistake in the 27th minute lead to Benrahma’s goal, which was the only goal of the match as West Ham won 1-0.

De Gea currently earning £375,000 per week, has been in talks over a new deal for months now.

He will have to take a pay-cut to stay at United, but his error on Sunday has made fans question whether a new goalkeeper is needed instead.

Speaking about De Gea after the match, Ten Hag said: ‘Yes, We want him to extend his contract and stay at the club.

‘He still has the most clean sheets in the Premier League. We might not be here without him.

‘There are no concerns for me. Such things happen. As a team, you must show character, work together and deal with it.

‘We started very well, and controlled the game, creating chances, but failed to take them, and then one mistake.’

On the battle for Champions League football, Ten Hag added: ‘It’s not just Liverpool. It’s us. It’s in our hands.’

The 1-0 win on Sunday led West Ham to almost safety from relegation in the Premier League.
