Raphael Varane Announces Retirement From International Football!

Raphael Varane has announced his retirement from international duty aged 29, MySportDab reports.

According to Le Parisien, a french media outliet, Varane had previously revealed he will quit International duties, before finally hanging boots.

The Manchester United center-back was key in Les Bleus’ 2022 World Cup outing, helping the team reach the final of the tournament.

He  was also an integral part of the team as they tasted World Cup glory in 2018.

Now, he has announced his international retirement and the World Cup final against Argentina is his his last game for Les Bleus.

Raphael Varane made 93 appearances for France national over the course of a decade, scoring five goals and represented his nation in four major tournaments.

Varane started his international career on March 22, 2013, featuring in Les Bleus’ win over Georgia in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

As a young and promising defender then, Raphael Varane quickly established himself as one of the top defenders to be reckoned with.

His spell with Les Bleus suffered a short setback in 2016 when he suffered a thigh injury that ruled him out of the 2016 European Championship.

Two years after the tournament, which France made it to the final and lost to Portugal, Raphael Varane regained his starting berth with Didier Deschamps squad.

He joined the team to the 2018 World Cup, and started every match as France reached the final and won the tournament, defeating fellow European side Croatia.

His retirement is a shock to France as he was set to be named as France national team captain.

He is the third French player to retire after the 2022 World Cup after Hugo Lloris announced his retirement immediately after the tournament.
