Manchester United have now confirmed that Donny van de Beek will miss the rest of the season, MySportDab reports.

The Dutch midfielder suffered a bad knee injury in United’s win against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

He had to be substituted before half-time after a challenge from Marcos Senesi who slipped for the tackle.

It took United 10 days to discover the extent of Van de Beek’s injury and they have now released a statement.

However, Erik ten Hag has now revealed that van De beek will miss six months of football.

‘He can’t play for the rest of the season,’ said Ten Hag.

‘In the long-term it is not too bad, he will be ready for next season pre-season.

‘No doubt everyone’s thoughts are with him. It is terrible when you get a bad injury. It is always disappointing.

‘You let that be know and we made that obvious. In the same moments, we also have mixed feelings and disappointment that he won’t play again for some time.

‘The players know we are building and everyone wants to be part of it.’

On Instagram, Van de Beek shared an update after surgery from the hospital.

He wrote: ‘I’m disappointed to miss the rest of the season.

‘After successful surgery, i must now start my recovery process and do everything to be back better.

‘Thank you for the messages, they mean a lot to me.’

Van de Beek has struggled ever since he joined Manchester United in 2020 from Ajax and could not replace Bruno Fernandes in the first team.
