Netherlands and Ecuador shared points as they settled for a thrilling 1-1 draw in their second World Cup game, MySportDab reports.
First Half Report
It was a tightly contested game as the first half kicked off, but the Dutch had a slight advantage with the ball possession.
They were looking dangerous when launching an attack, threatening the Ecuadorians’ defence.
Just six minutes into the game, Gody Gakpo scored a screamer with a powerful strike into the top corner to give the Dutch the lead.
It was a great goal from the edge of the box, and that was his second of the tournament.
After conceding first, Ecuador mounted pressure on their opponents as they searched for an equaliser.
They surprisingly contested for possession and came across a series of chances but failed to convert them.
It was a heated encounter going forward. The Dutch also looked set to double their lead as they equally attacked and pressed for another goal.
Ecuador were finally able to break the goal deadlock in the stoppage-time of the first half. After a corner kick which was cleared, Plata fired back a low shot which deflected into the net, but it was ruled offside.
The first half ended with the Dutch maintaining their narrow 1-0 lead.
Second Half Report
Ecuador were largely impressive throughout the first half after conceding in the sixth minute.
The second half was not different as they built on their performance and pressed the Dutch for an equaliser.
Just minutes into the second half, they finally broke the goal deadlock and secured their equaliser courtesy of Valencia’s strike.
The Dutch tried to regain their lead thereafter, but thanks to the clinical defence of Ecuador.
Even after finding the equaliser, Ecuador still maintained their attacking spirit and contested strongly for the ball possession.
Both sides gave a good account of themselves, but the Ecuadorians were the incredible team here.
They contained the star-studded side and gave a brilliant performance throughout the game.
The game finally ended with both sides settling for a 1-1 draw.
