Netherlands have qualified for the Round of 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup after defeating host Qatar to finish as Group A winners, MySportDab reports.
First Half Report
The first half started with the Dutch dominating the game as expected and looking for an early goal.
It was an unimpressive performance by Qatar, as they offered little or no opposition to the Dutch.
Qatar sat back to defend as the Netherlands embarked on a massive attack and grabbed all three points in the game.
It was not long before they opened the scoring, with Gody Gakpo with the opening goal in the 26th minute.
Despite taking the lead in the 26th minute, the Netherlands continued to dominate play and searched for a second goal.
Qatar was forced down their half and could not measure up to the more clinical performance of the Louis Van Gaal-led team.
It was a one-sided affair throughout the first 45 minutes of play, as the Netherlands comfortably took the lead going into the first-half break.
Second Half Report
Nothing changed in the second half of the game as the Dutch continued dominating play and looking for a second goal.
In the 49th minute, Frenkie De Jong slot home a rebound from Memphis Depay’s shot to double the lead for the Dutch.
Qatar did little to curtail the two goals deficit but were able to patch up their backline not to concede more with less than 10 minutes of regulation left.
The Netherlands continued mounting pressure, while Qatar sat back to defend and relied on counterattacks to threaten the Dutch.
The game finally ended with the Netherlands grabbing a 2-0 win to finish as Group A winners qualifying for the next round of the competition.
