Manchester United have now officially submitted their first bid for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, MySportDab reports.

The Red Devils are keen to rebuild for the future under new manager Ten Hag.

De Jong is a player that Ten Hag knows very well from their days together at Ajax.

He is also one of a number of players Barcelona are considering selling this summer.

According to Spanish Newspaper Marca, Manchester United have now submitted their first offer to sign the midfielder from Barcelona.

The Red Devils have now offered Barca £51m plus £17m in add-ons.

The Spanish Club are yet to respond to United’s offer.

MySportDab understands that Ten Hag has spoken to the player and convinced him of being a key part of his plans for next season.

Ten Hag wants new players in Manchester United’s midfield following the exits of Paul Pogba, Lingard and Nemanja Matic.

De Jong is currently away on international duty with the Netherlands and played in their match against Belgium.

There are claims that De Jong wants to play in a more deeper midfield role but Sergio Busquets is already doing that at Barca.

Despite his preferred style of play, De Jong has made it clear so many times that he wants to stay at Barcelona

‘I would love to stay at Barcelona,’ De Jong said.

‘FCB is my dream club. I’ve never regretted coming here but I had hoped to win more than done so far. But I am very happy.’

However, Barca’s financial crisis and their plans to sign new players like Robert Lewandowski, some have to leave.

De Jong one of the players that Barcelona see as sellable so as to invest the funds gotten elsewhere.

De Jong’s sale would allow Barca to enter the market and sign new player like Lewandowski and Raphinha.

Barcelona’s financial situation means they can’t just reject any offer right now.
