Manchester United may have their chances of signing Frenkie De Jong could be slimmed down after Barcelona receives a financial boost, MySportDab reports.

New United manager Erik Ten Hag has pursued a possible deal vigorously with Barcelona to sign Frenkie De Jong as his prime target.

The former Ajax player had been linked to a possible move to Manchester United after Ten Hag assumed a new role as United Manager.

Ten Hag is reportedly seeking a reunion with Frenkie De Jong, who has been under his tutelage during his spell as Ajax manager.

The Champions League semi-finalist hopes to overhaul an underperforming Manchester United squad.

Sources close to the multiple Eredivise title winner say he is bent on adopting Ajax-style high pressing and attacking football built on youth.

Hence, Barcelona forward Frenkie De Jong could be an integral part of Ten Hag’s new Manchester United.

However, a financial deadlock that has hit the Catalans since Covid has been one of the reasons they wanted to offload the former Ajax player.

Also, the La Liga giants are also pursuing a deal with a disenchanted and under-motivated Bayern Munich forward, Robert Lewandowski.

Lewandowski is bent on exciting the Allianz arena this summer, although he still has a year remaining in his Bayern Munich contract.

Barcelona is his chosen destination, but the Catalans must submit a reasonable bid for the Poland international.

The Catalans had been submerged in a financial crisis which made the club ready to consider bids for Frenkie De Jong.

However, with the recent financial boost necessitated by the sale of 49.9% of BLM and 25% of TV rights, Ten Hag’s chances of landing his dream target might get slimmer.

Barcelona Assembly approved the sale of those two assets to save the club from impending financial ruin.

Already offers of €275m have been received by Laporta, who has rejected the offer

Barcelona is hoping to raise €700-€800m from the sale of the two assets, which can go a long way to mitigate their financial ordeals.

The boost in Barcelona’s finances may well hamper Erik Ten Hag’s chances of signing Frenkie De Jong.

This could be a massive blow to Erik Ten Hag, who is yet to sign any player with his plan overhaul of the Old Trafford Club.
