PSG Star Kylian Mbappe has confirmed that he asked to leave the club this summer but the transfer to Real Madrid failed, MySportDab reports.

Real Madrid offered PSG the sum of £137million and £154m for Kylian Mbappe, both the French club did not respond to the offers.

Mbappe is now into the final 12 months of his contract at the Parc des Princes.

He will be able to leave PSG on a free transfer at the end of the season after failing to sign a contract extension.

However, Speaking to French Newspaper RMC Sport, Mbappe confirmed he wanted to leave PSG at the start of the transfer window so the club could sign a replacement.

‘I clearly asked to leave because I did not want to extend, I wanted the club to get a transfer fee and sign a quality replacement,’ Mbappe said.

‘It is a club that means a lot to me, I have always been happy throughout my time here, and I still am.

‘I announced it early so that the club can turn around. I wanted everyone to act grown up, leave hand in hand, to make a good transfer deal, and I respected that. I told them, ”if you won’t let me leave, I will stay”.’

But, Mbappe has now denied reports that he rejected multiple extension offers and hit back at claims that he only tried to leave  in the final week of the transfer window.

PSG sporting director Leonardo accused Real Madrid of ‘illegal and disrespectful behaviour’ after their first bid, and added the proposal was not straightforward.

However, Mbappe claims he asked to leave once he had returned to the club in July, after an extended holiday.

‘People say that I rejected six or seven extension offers, that I refused to talk to Leonardo anymore, that’s not true.’

When asked if PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi had taken over talks over a new contract, Mbappe said: ‘That is not for me to judge, but my position has always been clear.

‘I said that I wanted to leave early enough. I did not appreciate the idea that they make me sound like a thief. I said in July that I wanted to leave.’

Mbappe was Real Madrid’s top priority signing during Zinedine Zidane’s time at the club and the objective is still the same under new Coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Mbappe is also keen to join Real Madrid and it is widely expected to join Los Blancos at the end of his contract in the summer.

Mbappe joined PSG in 2017 from AS Monaco for a £165m transfer fee.

He has scored 136 goals in 182 matches for the Ligue 1 club, and has scored four league goals in nine matches so far this season.
