Manchester United’s hierarchy are now regretting their decision to give goalkeeper David de Gea a new contract worth £375,000 a week, MySportDab reports.

The new contract for De Gea was agreed by the club back in 2019.

De Gea is now Manchester United’s highest-paid player since he signed the contract two years ago.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United are furious that they gave De Gea a contract worth £75m in salary over the length of the deal.

The new contract given to De Gea by Manchester United until 2023 has now caused problems at the club.

The deal resulted in a poor gap in salaries at a time when United wanted to control the finances.

The Spaniard was close to joining Real Madrid back in 2015 before he later signed a new contract and almost left as a free agent in 2020.

In 2019, Alexis Sanchez’s £500,000-a-week contract affected wage demands at the club from top players.

United face a similar situation yet again with midfielder Paul Pogba this summer.

The Red Devils might have to cave in and meet Pogba’s demands.

United are now looking at the possibility of selling Pogba this summer to avoid losing him on a free next summer.

Paris Saint-Germain are still eyeing a £43m bid for the midfielder.

Pogba has one year left on his current £290,000-a-week contract and remains Manchester United’s second highest paid player.

MySportDab understands that Pogba has now shown any signs that he wants to sign a new contract.

Manchester United Highest-paid Players

David De Gea – £375,000

Paul Pogba – £290,000

Harry Maguire – £250,000

Anthony Martial – £160,000

Marcus Rashford – £160,000

Phil Jones – £120,000
