They can demand that Manchester United, who are responsible for the match postponement, pay compensation to the other club.

Hundreds of United fans broke into Old Trafford on Sunday ahead of their match against Liverpool in protest at the club’s owners, the Glazers.

There were ugly scenes as the police clashed with fans.

The FA and Premier League have different rules that focus on the postponement of matches and the safety of players and staffs.

Rule K14 from the Premier League Handbook, states that the home club must ensure that there is a safe environment for the players and match officials at the stadium.

Rule K13 states that the stadium entrance, parking area and the points of entry must be guaranteed safe.

Representatives from both clubs and the Premier League discussed about the situation at Old Trafford at 4pm.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool were held back at their hotels by the Greater Manchester Police due to the protests.

The Greater Manchester Police released a statement, which read: ‘Since the conclusion of talks with The Premier League, Trafford Council and the clubs, a joint decision has been made to postpone the match.’
