Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo is ready to compete with summer signing Edinson Cavani at Manchester United, MySportDab reports.

Cavani moving to Old Trafford has increased the competition in attack but Ighalo is ready for the task ahead.

“It’s good for everyone, for the team to be ready to work hard,” Ighalo told Manchester United’s official website.

“For a club, like Manchester United, there is always competition for players to perform well and I am happy for the new guys.

“They have brought in more challenges to everyone in the squad, to work harder to play in the team.”

Ighalo played as a second half substitute in the first match of the new season against Crystal Palace but was not named for other matches.

However, he started the Carabao Cup matches against Luton Town and Brighton.

Odion Ighalo will definitely be considered by Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this weekend, after Anthony Martial’s red card.

“I’m ready any day,” Ighalo added.

“Whenever he calls me, i always want to give my best in training, work harder and wait for my chance to take it.

“Hopefully, I’ll keep working hard every day. Arrive at the training ground and give my best.

“Whenever the Coach needs me, I will give my best.”

Newcastle have had an impressive start to 2020/21 season and will be difficult opponents under Steve Bruce for Manchester United.

However, United need a win away from home to respond to the defeat against Tottenham.

“We always work hard and look forward to it,” Ighalo said.

“We’ve all been training very hard. Those of us not among the international teams have been working very hard.

“We are all in top shape and, when those on international duty are all back, I think we have a good chance to win the game.

“I know we have not started the season well, so we must try to start again this weekend.”
