Stoke City Coach Michael O’Neill said: “We’re happy to bring Mikel to the Club. His playing career speaks a lot and shows his quality as a player.
“We talked for around four hours and he told us that he wants a return into the Premier League and end his career there and hopefully he will with Stoke City.”
Mikel played over 370 matches for Chelsea and won the Premier League title twice, three FA Cup trophies, the Europa League and Champions League.
After some years in China, Mikel played for Middlesbrough on a short-term contract in January 2019, playing 19 matches.
He played 91 matches for the Nigeria Super Eagles before his retirement from international football in 2019.
