Real Madrid and Manchester United’s hopes of signing Striker Erling Haaland have been dealt a huge blow after it emerged his release clause cannot be used until 2022, MySportDab reports.

The highly-rated goalscorer has been heavily linked with both European club for a move at the end of the season, with £65million the fee required to seal the deal.

However, According to German Newspaper Bild, Dortmund have rejected the claim and stated that the clause can’t be active for another two seasons.

Haaland in January sparked a bidding war after leaving Red Bull Salzburg following a stunning time at the club, with Manchester United behind when he chose to join Borussia Dortmund.

The Norwegian star is also said to have snubbed Real too but both clubs appear ready to show their interest again when the transfer window eventually re-opens.

Dortmund are expected to demand over £62million for Haaland, which is currently his market value, and interested clubs will have to pay up to snap up their man.

And the release clause issue may now be a big problem to any negotiations, leaving United and Real like to spend more cash to convince Haaland to leave the Bundesliga.

MySportDab understands Haaland is content to remain at Dortmund and still has four years left on his contract.

Haaland New Contract?

Dortmund may decide to offer Haaland a more lucrative contract to prevent a transfer bid, but are set to earn a large profit should they sell.

Borussia Dortmund paid up to £35million to sign Haaland from Austria with all bonuses and add-ons taken into account.

Manchester United Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer flew to Salzburg in December 2019 to convince the youngster to move to Old Trafford.

But Haaland snubbed United’s interest and moved to join Dortmund, where he has now scored 12 goals in his first 11 matches.
