MySportDab reporting Jose Mourinho was set to head back to Estadio do Dragao in 2016 before accepting Man United contract.

Manchester United blocked the Portuguese from making a shocking return back to FC Porto in the summer of 2016.

The decision to replace the Dutchman with Mourinho at Old Trafford sometime before it was made official.

The Portuguese already signed a contract with United before waiting patiently to take over the team.

The former FC Porto coach was offered a deal to head back to familiar surroundings before the end of the 2015/2016 season.

It was confirmed that Porto’s President received the greenlight by Mourinho who won the Uefa Champions League with the club.

Man United went in and offered Jose Mourinho a deal which shattered the whole plans of him heading to Porto.

He told the club’s official YouTube channel of what could have been a notable coup for the club: “We were without a coach in the middle of the season.

According to Porto’s President Da Costa, he approached Mourinho who had a contract with Man United which was next season.

“It seemed impossible. But not for him, he said yes.

“There was a cup final at the time, a league cup final and he said he was coming.

“And when we were thinking it was possible, Manchester United did not authorise it as they argued that we could be opponents in a European competition.

“But a lot of people ignore the fact that, without any conditions, Mourinho was available to spend half a season at Porto in an emergency.

“It is a fact that is unknown, but it shows the affection he had [for the club].”
