Arsenal have confirmed that midfielder Lucas Torreira will miss the remainder of the season due to an ankle injury, MySportDab reports.
The Uruguay midfielder was taken off on a stretcher in the 16th minute of the fifth round match against Portsmouth at Fratton Park and was replaced by Dani Ceballos.
Now, Arsenal have officially confirmed that he will miss football action for ‘eight to ten weeks’.
The Gunners confirmed in a statement on their website that the 24-year-old Right ankle had ‘sustained a fracture to his right ankle during the Portsmouth game on March 2’.
They added: ‘Still receiving continual assessments, Recovery process to take between eight to ten weeks.’
Torreira who left the stadium on crutches, joined the club from Sampdoria in 2018 for £26million and has made 75 appearances for the north London club.
This season he played 25 matches across all competitions and scored two goals, but he had not started a match under Mikel Arteta since the 2-2 draw at Chelsea.
MySportDab understands Torreira came on as a substitute in the next four match before finally being picked to start against Portsmouth.
But now the 25-year-old will be cursing his luck after his chance to impress went wrong, and must now look ahead to next season.
