The Brazilian has played down the importance of the Red Devils’ win over Chelsea, insisting their league form has not been appropriate enough.

Manchester United midfielder Fred is adamant that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is doing a good job at Old Trafford, however is conscious that the team has failed to live up to expectations once again this season.

The Red Devils are currently sitting seventh in the Premier League standings, three points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea and a whopping 38 in the back of runaway leaders Liverpool.

“Solskjaer is our teacher and does a good job,” said the Brazil international. “He is younger and developing each and every day. He learned a lot and will develop as a coach and person.

“It is up to the board to decide, we do not have the strength to determine on this. But he is very nice, he is an incredible person, he talks a lot, he has a playful side and he is usually smiling.

“The day to day is awesome and he is very vital for the team, as he was as a player in the history of the club.”

One man whose contribution to United’s purpose has been drastically constrained this time period is Paul Pogba, who underwent surgical procedure on a niggling ankle difficulty in January.

It is not yet known when the Frenchman will return to action, and he continues to be linked with a cross away from the club amid reported interest from Real Madrid and Juventus.

Fred acknowledges Pogba’s larger than life personality attracts negative press at times, however insists the midfielder is a “hard-working guy” who nonetheless has a lot to provide the team.
