The former Reds star considers the Brazil international playmaker to be a “lovely player” and feels there’s still a job for him at Anfield.

Liverpool ought to think about bringing “lovely player” Philippe Coutinho back to Anfield if he can be prised from Barcelona for a “reasonable fee”, says Steve McManaman.

The Reds parted with the Brazil international playmaker back within the winter window of 2018.

With a big-money deal having been within the said:g for a few times, the funds generated from Coutinho’s sale allowed Jurgen Klopp to invest heavily within the likes of Virgil van Dijk.

New arrivals at Anfield have thrived, in what’s currently the best squad, however, Coutinho flopped at Camp Nou.

He presently finds himself taking in an exceedingly loan spell at Bayern Munich as a result and facing up to an unsure future.

McManaman says the 27-year-old would be welcomed back to Merseyside with open arms, with Liverpool nevertheless to find an appropriate successor to the South American in a No.10 role.

The former Reds star said “It may well be that they prefer to bring an exact Philippe Coutinho back to the club.

“I wouldn’t mind seeing Coutinho back. He’s a superb player however a great deal of it’s just all the way down to economics.

“If they will bring Coutinho back for an affordable fee and probably sell a few players who are not playing regularly, then that would work.

“There are rumors that Xherdan Shaqiri could leave at the end of the season, and Adam Lallana might want to play additional often.

“If there’s space out there then I’d actually like Coutinho back, as he was an exquisite player for Liverpool. He’s that sort of player that when plan A isn’t operating he will change the game.

“He scored some unbelievable goals for Liverpool and tho’ he’d have to win the fans over once he asked to leave, I feel that almost all fans would recognize how good he was for Liverpool.

“He appears to have lost his way a bit at the minute, he needs a bit of attention and an arm around him doesn’t he?

“So if he needs to come back back to Liverpool and the deal was good then I’d have no qualms taking him back because he’s a stunning player.”

Coutinho took in 201 appearances for Liverpool over the course of 5 years, registering fifty-four goals and a powerful variety of assists.
